HRRL Overton

Presented with the runner-up trophy for the Hampshire Road Race League division two for the 2004-5 season, Farnham Runners men put in a strong team for the first race of the 2005-6 season. Now promoted to division one they had three runners under the 30-minute mark in the Overton 5, a hilly two lap course.

Mark Taylor (29.01) used the race in preparation for his forthcoming Chicago Marathon and finished 33rd in this very competitive race with 358 finishers. Graham Wilton ran particularly strongly on the uphill sections to take the 6th V40 prize (29.07, 38th). Dan Smith (29.39, 43rd) and Stuart Morgan (30.46, 66th) kept up an excellent pace in the hot conditions, followed by Charles Ashby (31.55, 87th) and Steve Murphy (33.23,119th).

Jane Georghiou led in the ladies’ team of three (34.30, 15th lady, 2nd W45), ahead of Bob Brimicombe 34.34, Nick Hill 34.52 and Andy Tweed 35.17. Both Lindsay Bamford (37.57) and Charlie Gray (38.50) improved on their course bests. Don Melvin crossed the line in 39.07.
