HXCL Wimborne

Farnham Runners ended the Hampshire League cross-country season with good results for both the men’s and women’s teams:

  • The men improved on last year’s final tally by three places to finish 5th of the 10 teams in Division Two, while the veterans 8th place of 19 teams in Division Two means that they are also secure in that Division for next year.
  • The ladies equalled their last season’s 8th place out of 32 Hampshire League teams, with the veterans’ team placing an excellent third against very strong competition.

In the final race at Wimborne, Dan Smith took six places from his previous best to lead in the team in a time of 34.18 over the 3 lap 9.3 km course and pick up tab 66. Charles Ashby (36.04, 90th) paced his run well to sneak past David Lloyd (36.31, 96th) who started strongly. Andy Tweed (40.07, 135) and Don Melvin (42.23, 150th, 15th V50 in the series) both gained personal best positions.

Melvin provided tremendous support for the team by competing in all five fixtures, along with captain Dan Smith.

The team finished 5th on the day.

Jane Georghiou was pleased with her second top 20 finish of the season in the 6km 2 lap course and to be placed 6th veteran over 35 in the series (24.59, 19th).

Jo Edson (27.17, 39th) and Lindsay Bamford (27.33, 43rd) as usual gave an excellent contribution to the team, which finished 11th and 5th veteran’s team of the day.
