Farnham Runners put out strong teams for the Today’s Runner Winter League race at Manor Farm Country Park, but were unable to beat organisers Stubbington Green Runners. The local club took second on the day out of the eighteen clubs in the league, and lie a very close second in the series with one match to go.

With 200 meters to go the final order of the first three Farnham men was still to be decided. Ian Carley won the day, his increased training in preparation for a spring marathon paying off as he snatched 13th. Charles Ashby (17th) just lost out on the last hill to cross the line steps behind Steve Kitney in 16th. Bob Brimicombe (28th) got the better of Andy Eakins (30th), these two making up the team that came runners up in the men’s section. Keenly supporting the club’s front runners were Alan Froud (50th) and Mike Ashworth (51st) while Tim Cummins had an excellent run for 59th slot.

Other men’s placings: Terry Steadman 68, Mike Walberton 74, Paul Beesley 80, Richard Cieslik 82, Hillary Carter 135.

Two of the ladies gained top ten places, Angela Epps in 6th and Jane Georghiou 9th. Stalwart Lindsay Bamford in 24th helped the team to 3rd in the ladies section. Kim Mepsted (41st), Caroline Freeman (45th), Lisa Smith (54th) and Diane Cox (61st) all provided valuable support.
