HRRL Eastleigh 10K and Worthing 20

Eastleigh 10K

Competitors from a wide area targeted the Eastleigh 10km, hoping for a good time over the flat course. Numbers were also swelled by a large number of members from Hampshire Road League clubs as the series draws to its close with two races now remaining.

Farnham Runners were there with complete A and B teams. The A men came 7th consolidating a safe aggregate position of 8th in Division One, while the ladies look set to achieve their pledge to gain promotion from Division Two as they still lie top after 2nd place on the day. Ian Carley took another chunk from his personal best, placing 65th of almost 2000 finishers in a superb thirty-five minutes and 28 seconds, 7th M40 in this fiercely competitive race. Mike Walberton flew round in a new best of 39-11 (12th M50). Martin Billett kicked himself for missing out on sub 40 minutes but was pleased to improve his time to 40-06. Tim Cummins beat Scott Salmon to be final counter in the A team on his two second lead from the gun, both recording a 40-28 chip time. Nick Hitchcock (40-47), Steve Murphy (40-42) and Nick Hill (43-36) completed the B team score for 10th of 15 clubs.

Jane Georghiou led the ladies in 42-33(2nd W55), followed by Suzanne Munton who was delighted with yet another personal best of 45-59. Returning to fitness, Gabi Hitchcock clocked 46-09. Lindsay Bamford headed the B team with 46-42. Emma Doven (47-50) benefited from recent training to take almost three minutes from her previous best and make a valuable contribution to the B placing of 7th. Chris Jackson (43-56), Tim Withers (51-16), Lucy Harris (51-23), Helen Cathie (54-37) and Richard Sheppard (57-35) also enjoyed this race.

Worthing 20M

On the same day the club had some outstanding performances at the Worthing twenty miler with two among the prizewinners. Sarah Hill won the ladies race for the second year running, taking almost five minutes from her club record. She finished in an amazing 2 hours 11 minutes 3 seconds for 17th place overall in a field of 447. This time she did have two Farnham men ahead, Michael Rix who came in 7th and 2nd M40 in an excellent 2-03-31 and James Ogilvie in a fine 2-08-57. Charles Ashby was pleased to deduct 2 minutes from his previous best in 2-13-49, followed by Steve Kitney in 2-18-05. Consistent training helped Stefan Klincewicz (2-56-33) and Wendy Carley (2-56-46) to continue improving their times.
