Yateley 10k series: race 3

The Yateley 10km series of three midweek races were enjoyed by many Farnham Runners as usual this year. Expertly organised by Sandhurst Joggers, they offer a challenge for all standards of runner and twenty-four Farnham Runners took part in the August race.

Four of the ladies were among the prize-winners, four of them also gaining prizes for the series, based on results from all three races. A number were pleased to acquire new personal best times on the undulating but fast course and all were pleased to complete another friendly 10km race, spurred on by some Farnham supporters.

Under 40 minutes in the first two races, Harvey Wickham recorded 40:03 in the final event, as first Farnham Runners home, 54th of over 800 finishers. Next Ali Hardaway and Mark Maxwell were close in 42:43 and 42:50 respectively.

Just seconds behind was Susie Chan in 42:53, ninth lady of 329 and third in the F35 category in this race and the series. Tenth and eleventh ladies were also Farnham Runners: Emma Pearson fifth F45 in a personal best 43:02 and Louise Granell third senior lady in 43:19. Emma was second F45 in the series.

Recovering from injury, Keith Marshall clocked 43:26 as sixth M60 to be third M60 in the series. Sarah McCulloch’s new personal best of 45:27 gave her sixth F45 place. Linda Tyler in 45:50 won the F55 category in this and the second race and took the F55 series prize by a total margin of over 24 minutes.

Steve Murphy, who has been enjoying these races for over 20 years, clocked 47:34, followed by Lindsay Bamford in 49:10. First F65 in all three races was Jane Georghiou in 50:12. Kay Copeland was second F55 in 51:21 and Robert Drummond sixth M70 in 1:01:25.
