Grand Prix Leagues - Frequently asked questions

1. How many races can I compete in?

You can compete in as many races as you want but try not to overrace as injuries are no fun!

2. How many leagues can I compete in?

You can compete in as many leagues as you like, again while avoiding over-racing.

Each league is aimed at a different type of runner – from the newer, maybe less competitive runner to the racing snakes and everyone in between. You might find you want to concentrate on longer distances one year, in which case Hampshire Road Race GP might be for you.

Likewise, if you’re time pressured then a local league might appeal as you can pick your distance and all races are close by (see the Fun and Local GP).

3. What role is the Team Captain in the new system?

The team captain’s job is to focus on the actual HRRL and the TRXCL leagues and put forward the best teams they can for each event. You might like to chat with the Team Captains when planning your year’s races to see what their focus might be to fit in with your schedule.

4. What league should I enter?

It’s really a case of picking your races according to your level of commitment and your ability.

If you’re time pressured, you might like to compete in Today’s Runner Cross Country GP which are mostly local, short races that don’t take up the entire day to compete in.

Similarly if you want to try to race in all manner of distances and fancy a challenge, why not try the HRRL GP?

Or if you’re a newbie to the whole racing game, try the Fun and Local GP – it’s fun and you can even nominate the races you would like to see in the League!

5. What happens with the Club Marathon Place?

The 2013 London Marathon Place will be awarded as follows:

  1. You must have competed in 14 or more races in the Grand Prix calendar.
  2. You must have entered, and been rejected, for the London Marathon.
  3. You must hand over your London Marathon rejection slip to the Club Secretary by noon on the Wednesday following the last race of the season. Either Bourne Woods or Hogs Back 8 whichever is latest.
  4. The Marathon draw will take place during that evenings meeting.
  5. You must have been a fully paid up member of Farnham Runners in both the club year of the ballot and at least one day of the previous club year (club year currently runs from April 1st to 31st March).

If you win a Farnham Runners ballot place, you cannot re-apply for a club place the following year (the committee will re-assess this rule on a year by year basis).

Farnham Runners currently receive 3 marathon places. There will be one draw for all eligible male applicants and one draw for all eligible female applicants. All remaining applicants will be placed together and a third person drawn.

In the event Farnham Runners are awarded four marathon places, then there will be two places drawn from both the male and females ballots.

In the event that nobody achieves 14 races within a gender group, then the qualifying number will be dropped to 13, then 12 etc as necessary. If, say 3 women have completed 14+, no men have completed 14+ and only two have completed 13, one women and one man will be drawn from each pot. The final place will be drawn from the female pot (as in this example they have achieved the qualifying threshold).
