Farnham Runners entered full men’s and ladies teams in the third round of the Hampshire League cross-country series. Two laps for the ladies and three for the men over the hilly Ashe Meadows, Overton made up a challenging course.

Men’s captain Dan Smith excelled with a new best position of 72nd and a time of 33.35. David Lloyd took an impressive 89 places from his first attempt at the league just one month ago (88th, 34.48). Vince Crowley returned to the racing scene with a strong run for 111th (36.19). Veteran Terry Steadman was another delighted achiever of a PB place (119th, 36.48) while Don Melvin (159th PB, 40.38) was boosted by his contribution to the team result of 4th place in Division 2. Robert Bevan helped the veterans’ team to 8th of 19 in Division 2.

There was a battle among the ladies for the three team places. Jane Georghiou crossed the line 27th in (24.44) while a close trio of Jo Edson (46th, 27.28), Lindsay Bamford (49th 27.41) and Frances Britain (52nd 27.55) all improved on their previous bests. The team finished 8th of 15 teams overall and 3rd in the veterans’ table.
