Farnham Sports Council logoThe Farnham Sports Council annual awards were held on Monday 10th December.

The decision was made to hold the awards, even though most local sports events throughout Surrey have been cancelled this year, in order to recognise the achievements of sports clubs throughout the Farnham area during 2020, particularly during the Covid-19 period.

There were twenty very high quality nominations for three categories and the results were announced by Farnham Mayor, Pat Evans, during the Zoom meeting which attracted around 42 participants.

In the Community Club of the Year, Farnham Runners was given a Highly Commended Award for its efforts to communicate with its members and continue to offer as much as possible for its runners within England Athletics Coved-19 restrictions.

For the Marion Stockley Award, the club nominated David Georghiou as its Unsung Hero for working tirelessly behind the scenes to create a new website for the club. David was also the recipient of a Highly Commended Award.

Finally, Jane Probett was given a special Inspiration Award for her many achievements since becoming a member of Farnham Runners; maintaining her weight loss, competing in enough league races to earn a place in the club ballot for the London Marathon, winning that place and going on to run her first marathon in October this year.

David Gill, chairman of the Farnham Sports Council, commented on the coverage that Farnham Runners has been getting in the Farnham Herald recently!!
