Get Me Started course

Runner tying laces of running shoe

If you have ever wanted to start running but lacked the confidence or motivation then this is the course for you.

Farnham Runners are proud to promote running fitness at every level. We enjoy the fitness and fun that running gives us and each year we run courses to help to introduce others to running and to our club.

Our Get Me Started course, designed by England Athletics, is suitable for those new to running as well as runners coming back from injury, illness or a period of inactivity. By the end of the course, you should be able to run for 30 minutes without stopping, preparing you well for your first 5K.

The next course will start on 17th April 2024.

The course fee is ÂŁ90 and has a maximum of 20 places available that have always been taken up. We therefore recommend that you sign up as soon as you can if you wish to attend the course.

The course fee includes the cost of the course, annual membership to Farnham Runners and affiliation to England Athletics for the year and a Farnham Runners technical running t-shirt.

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for anyone who wants to take up running, or runners coming back from injury, illness or a period of inactivity. Our qualified coach and leaders will help to promote the confidence, motivation and fitness needed to complete the course.

In order to qualify to join the course you must already be comfortable walking for 30 minutes or more.

About the course

Our England Athletics trained Coach and Leaders in Running Fitness lead the ten week course and will guide, advise, help and encourage you. Volunteers from the club, including runners who have completed the course in the past will also be on hand to encourage this year’s beginners.

There will be two sessions each week:

Each session will start with a warm-up, follow a structured, progressive run/walking programme and finish with cool-down stretches.

The Saturday sessions are designed to introduce you to the wonderful atmosphere of running as part of the parkrun community.

The sessions are friendly, inclusive and encouraging and everyone is welcome.
