Get Me Started course 2024

Attendees and their coaches stretching on the Bourne Green after a 2024 Get Me started session

Farnham Runners held another Get Me Started course this year, welcoming 17 new members to the club.

The 10-week course is designed to take novices and those returning to running following injury or break for other reasons from running for a minute at a time to being able to run for 30 minutes without stopping.

The course was led by coaches Julia Tagg, Craig Tate-Grimes and Linda Tyler, and leaders Lindsay Bamford, Jacquie Browne, Ivan Chunnett, Chris Gill, Louise Grannell, Sarah McCullough and Leza O’Flaherty.

There were two sessions each week, one from the clubhouse on Wednesday evenings and the other at Alice Holt parkrun on Saturday mornings.

During the 10 weeks, the new recruits enjoyed venturing into the Bourne Woods after an initial session on the Bourne Green and were introduced to the wonderful atmosphere at parkrun held every Saturday morning in the beautiful setting of the Alice Holt Forest. They were also introduced to social events at the club.

Over half of the people who started made it to the end of the course and were able to complete a 30-minute run on their last Wednesday evening, followed by running the whole of the 5K parkrun the following Saturday.
