HRRL Overton 5

The Hampshire Road Race League 2007-8 kicked off at Overton with a two lap five miler.

The Farnham Runners team showed both quality and quantity with 19 members supporting the club. The ladies were delighted with 4th on their debut in the first division and the Farnham men came 7th of 10, also in the top flight.

Club chairman Dan Smith paced at under 6 minute miles over the hilly course to cross the line in 29 minutes 54 seconds and was 62nd of 450 finishers. Just a minute behind was Steve Kitney in 30.52 (73rd) with newcomer Andy Eakins (31.40, 92nd) and Colin Addison (33.15, 128th) making up the โ€œAโ€ team.

Mark Jones (33.21), Andy Tweed (33.23), Tim Cummins (35.30) and Simon Clyde (36.02) comprised the โ€œBโ€ team that was 9th, while Howard Inns 37.49, Steve Payne 38.05, Richard Cieslik 38.25, Richard Sheppard 40.28 and Bob Brimicombe 46.01 all provided valuable back-up.

A strong finish for 34.23 helped Angela Epps to lead in the Farnham ladies and her efforts were rewarded with a county medal for being first Hampshire lady in the W40 category. Jane Georghiou was pleased with her time of 34.32 that gave her 1st W55. Samantha Pelham completed the excellent A team result with 38.09.

For a creditable 6th slot in the B team table Sue Creasey crept under 40 minutes (39.59) with Caroline Freeman in 41.03 and Diane Cox in 46.00.
