HRRL Ryde
Farnham Runners men’s and ladies’ teams consolidated their positions in the Hampshire Road Race League in the Ryde ten miler.
The men stay a safe 6th in the top division while the ladies are still 3rd in division two but well placed for promotion when their 3 worst results are discounted at the end of the season. The very undulating course on the Isle of Wight put paid to personal best hopes for most but made an enjoyable and scenic race.
Dan Smith, 23rd of 264 men, fought hard to be close to the hour mark (1.01.15) and he lies 12th in the individual table. Michael Rix had to settle to be second Farnham scorer in 28th (1.02.03). Charles Ashby was close behind until he lost focus on the last hill (39th, 1.03.52).
Andy Tweed (88th, 1.10.58) amazingly produced a personal best on this course to make up the league team that came 5th. Don Melvin (1.15.05) and Howard Inns (1.20.27) provided useful back up.
Fifth lady Jane Georghiou came home in 1.10.26 while Sam Pelham’s 1.19.49 (34th of 87 ladies) places her 8th in the individual table. Caroline Freeman produced a very valuable 1.28.27 to complete the team that was 3rd in their division on the day.
