HRRL Ryde 10 miles, Pilgrim Challenge and Wokingham Half Marathon

HRRL Ryde 10 miles

Only five Farnham Runners faced the long journey and bracing conditions for the Ryde 10 miler, organised by Ryde Harriers. The four men did well, coming 8th in the top of “A” Division of the Hampshire Road League and keeping the team 7th on aggregate.

James Clarke led them in, his time an impressive 62 minutes 18 seconds over the hilly course in cold and blustery conditions. He came 26th of 368 finishers. Next Mike Walberton, getting back to racing fitness, clocked a very useful 67:07 which gave him a fine 2nd in the M55 category. Steve Murphy (1:14:18) overtook John Phillips (1:14:15) on the line and to claim the third of the four scoring places which are based on gun to chip times. Phillips equalled his best 10 mile time even though he challenged himself by incorporating a return cycle ride from Farnham to Haslemere station as part of his training.

Only Vicki Clarke represented Farnham ladies in a very respectable 1:21:46, for 47th of 142. Never-the-less the A and B teams stay in contention for promotion from Division Two if they put out full teams in forthcoming events.

Pilgrim Challenge

Members Susie Chan and Jane Mezullo completed the gruelling 66 mile two day Pilgrim Challenge over a snowy and muddy North Downs Way. Susie came an excellent 5th lady and 16th overall in a total time of 11:04:00 while Jane was 15th of 54 ladies in 13:07:13, raising over £500 for the Farnham “Hedgehogs”.
