Our runners impress in New Forest
On a gloriously sunny autumnal day, eighteen Farnham Runners travelled to the New Forest for a 10 mile race, the third in the Hampshire Road League series. It was a popular choice and entries soon sold out. It hadn’t been in the series since 2017, when it was staged in July. Although it included some forest tracks, some Farnham Runners still recorded personal best times for the distance. Ten of the 18 gained top 20 age category positions.
First back was Joe Collins in an impressive 19th place of 822 finishers with a time of just over an hour (1:00:25). Next came 3rd M60, Chris Raby in 1:10:05 with Nick Grist on his heels in 1:10:17. Men’s captain Justin Clarke (6th M60) completed the A team score in 1:11:50.
Tony Jones (7th M60) led the B team in 1:12:24, followed by Paul Keogh (10th M60, PB) in 1:13:31, Charles Ashby in 1:14:21 and James Goodwin in 1:16:18. Chris Gill and Howard Inns had more time to enjoy the route, clocking 1:39:54 and 1:39:57.
Candy Waller was delighted to take three minutes from her previous best in 1:19:39 and to lead in the Farnham Runners’ ladies. Bridget Naylor in 1:27:03, Lindsay Bamford in 1:28:59 and Gemma Whitehouse in 1:34:33 provided a strong A team. Lizzie Collins took part in her first 10-miler in 1:39:51 in a close packed group with Becky Martin in 1:39:55, Penny Schnabel (7th F65) in 1:40:59 and Julia Tagg in 1:46:42.
The men’s A1 team now lie 7th/10 clubs after 6th on the day. The men’s B1 team lie 7th/10 after 7th on the day.
The ladies’ A1 team lie 5th/10 clubs after 8th on the day. The ladies’ B1 team lies 3rd/10 after 6th on the day.
