Award winning Farnham Runners

Farnham Runners had 3 nominations for the annual Farnham Sports Awards.

Susie Chan and Sarah Hill went head to head for the Senior Sports Personality of the Year and the Farnham Runners John O’Groats to Lands End Frogle team were up for the Best Team Award.

A delighted Susie Chan now joins the likes of Rachel Morris and Johnny Wilkinson as this years winner, just beating Sarah Hill who received a commendation for her running acheivements.

The Frogle Team, lead by Cyra Parkes, was voted Best Sports Team of the Year for their relay running adventure which raised £6000 for Phyliss Tuckwell and the Alzheimers Society.

SXCL Pamber Forest

Sunday 9th October saw the start of the Southern League Cross Country series on a beautiful sunny morning. 25 Farnham Runners took on the 5 mile, relatively flat course in Pamber Forest, Basingstoke.

The mens team came a fine 3rd and Ladies 11th out of 23 southern based running clubs. Richard Lovejoy (3rd), Ian Carley (13th), Andrew Ellison (31th), Charlie Hill-Venning (34th) and Stuart Haig (44th) completed the men’s team. The previous week Stuart Haig had come 4th in the 38 mile Downslink ultra.

On fine form Lindsay Bamford led the ladies in (27th), with Fiona Carle (45th) and Kay Copeland (72nd) completing the Ladies team. Kay won her age category in the Alton Downsland 10k the previous week.

Other finishers Charles Ashby, Matt Dellar, John Hill-Vennings, Tim Cummins, Nick Hitchcock, Terry Copeland, Toby Loomis, Steve Bailey, Craig tate-Grimes, Jeff Loomis, Richard Sheppard, Tori Shaw, Wendy Carley, Claire Bailey, Cyra Parkes, Ruth Bowers and Jacquie Browne.

Peter Strange provided great support after his recent operation.

HRRL Solent Half Marathon

Spread far and wide, Farnham Runners also had a 10 strong team at the Solent Half Marathon with James Clarke leading in the mens team (1:23:55),Micahael Haines picking up 2nd M50 (1:24:46), Neil Ambrose acheiving a new Personal Best (1:33:38) and rival John Phillips, just behind, making the 4th spot in the mens team (1:33:59).

Ever improving Eloise Stradling was first Farnham lady (1:37:48), Tara Hunt (1:51:17) and Mary Fitzgerald (1:56:26) completing the ladies team.

Alistair Hardaway and Chris Cramp also ran well.

Basingstoke Half Marathon

Three more runners took part in the Basingstoke half marathon with Sarah Hill taking 1st in her age category (2nd overall) and new member Linda Tyler taking 4th in her age category. Paul Day also completed the undulating course.
